Authorization hold explained
Authorization hold explained
When you request a ride, HOVR may place a temporary authorization hold on your payment method. This is not a final charge — it is a standard verification step used to confirm your payment method is valid and has sufficient funds.
How authorization holds work
- A temporary hold may appear on your bank or card statement when you request a trip.
- The hold is typically released or adjusted once the trip is completed and the final fare is calculated.
- If a trip is cancelled, the hold is usually reversed, though your bank may take a few business days to process the reversal.
Why the hold amount may differ from the final charge
The authorization hold is an estimated amount. The final charge may be higher or lower depending on the actual trip route, duration, and any applicable fees.
What if a hold stays longer than expected?
If a hold remains on your account longer than expected, please contact Support and include:
- The amount shown
- The date of the hold
- The last 4 digits of the payment method
Still need help?
Contact HOVR Support through the app or Help Center if an authorization hold has not cleared after several business days.
