How to Change or Update Your Vehicle on HOVR
If you've changed cars, added a new vehicle, or need to update the vehicle on your HOVR driver account, here's everything you need to know.
What You'll Need
To process a vehicle change, please have the following three documents ready before contacting us:
- Vehicle Registration — Your provincial Ministry of Transportation ownership document for the vehicle.
- Safety Standards Certificate (SSC) — A current SSC issued by a licensed Ontario mechanic shop (or your province's equivalent).
- Proof of Insurance — An active insurance policy listing you as the named insured on the new vehicle.
All three are required. We cannot complete the vehicle change without them.
How to Submit Your Documents
The fastest way to update your vehicle is through the HOVR support messenger or by replying to a ticket. When you reach out:
- Let us know you'd like to change your vehicle.
- Attach all three documents — clear, well-lit photos or scans work best.
- Our team will review and update your driver profile.
You can attach the documents one at a time as you go, or send them all at once. Either way works.
About Each Document
Vehicle Registration — This is the ownership document for the vehicle (often called the "vehicle permit" or "green slip" in Ontario). If you don't have a copy on hand, you can request one from your provincial Ministry of Transportation or Service Ontario.
Safety Standards Certificate (SSC) — The SSC confirms your vehicle has passed a safety inspection. Most licensed mechanic shops can issue one — it's commonly required for vehicle transfers and used-car purchases. Certificates are typically valid for 36 days from the date of issue, so submit a current one.
Proof of Insurance — Your insurance broker or carrier can provide a copy of your current policy document. The document needs to show the vehicle (year, make, model, VIN), the policy period, and your name as the named insured. A pink card or insurance ID card from your provider works in most cases.
What Happens After You Submit
- Review: Our team verifies the documents (typically within 1 business day).
- Update: We update the vehicle on your driver profile.
- Confirmation: You'll receive a reply confirming the change is complete. Once confirmed, you can drive on the new vehicle right away.
If anything is missing or unclear in your documents, we'll reach out for a clearer copy or the missing piece — no need to wait.
Common Questions
Can I drive with my old vehicle until the change is complete?
Yes — you can continue driving on your currently registered vehicle until we confirm the change. Don't switch to the new vehicle on the app until we've confirmed the update.
What if my SSC is expired?
You'll need a new one. Most mechanic shops can issue an SSC same-day. Send us the new certificate as soon as you have it.
What if I only have two of the three documents right now?
Send what you have and let us know which document you're still waiting on. We'll begin the review and follow up about the missing piece — this avoids unnecessary delay.
Do I need to do anything in the app?
No. Once our team updates your driver profile, the new vehicle will appear in the app automatically.
How long does the update take?
Typically within 1 business day from the moment we have all three documents. Submissions over the weekend are processed on the next business day.
